History of the Rats
 


TheatreRats is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Conceived in 2003 by actors Paul and Anna VanEtten, TheatreRats has sought to:

  • Provide opportunities for artistic creativity for all members of the theatrical community
  • Create and maintain a sense of community and support for its associates and partners

TheatreRats has engaged in a variety of projects since its conception, including:

  • Rats’ Nest Reading Group/Monthly Meetings.
  • Fall, 2003 – TheatreRats' debut production, Spike Heels, by Theresa Rebeck.
  • January, 2004 – An Improvisational Comedy Workshop.
  • September 23rd, 2004 – TheatreRats Launches its first and current website
  • October 15 - 23, 2004 –TheatreRats produces the world premier of Agripinna by Giovanni Affinito.
  • June 2005 – TheatreRats produces The First Annual Chester Horn Short Play Festival
  • March 2-11, 2006 – TheatreRats revitalizes Thomas Middleton and William Rowley's 1622 classic,The Changeling.
  • September 14, 2006 – TheatreRats is approved for Incorporation.
  • September 21-24, 2006 – TheatreRats renews its dedication to new works producing The Second Annual Chester Horn Short Play Festival.
  • December 26, 2007 – TheatreRats is officially incorporated.
  • April 26 - May 5, 2007 – TheatreRats produces Wendy MacLeod's The House of Yes.
  • September 27 - 30, 2007 – The Third Annual Chester Horn Short Play Festival.
  • December 31, 2007 – TreatreRats produces 3 short plays leading up to a rousing New Year's Eve in
    Curtain: 2008

In January of 2004, Paul and Anna moved to Los Angeles and generously awarded creative control of TheatreRats to the current company. With this change have come renewed energy and broader goals, which include an increased number of productions each season.

TheatreRats excitedly looks forward to building a long and memorable history in New York for its company members and for the entire theater community.
